William Gallagher served his Army tour of duty in Saigon in 1968. Although he didn’t serve on the front lines, he witnessed the effects of the war, especially when he spent a few days in the hospital and saw “the real wounded.” Gallagher provides graphic descriptions of his experiences in Vietnam, which has also served as a source for his poetry. Gallagher reads two of his poems, “Self-Pity” and “The Wall.”
