One of Serena’s last professional tennis matches took place at the 2022 U.S. Open on Aug. 29, 2022. She announced she’d be moving on in an interview with ‘Vogue’ earlier that month. ‘I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me,’ she told the outlet. Her announcement brought about support from so many people, including celebrities like Beyonce.

Serena ended up winning her first match at the U.S. Open on Aug. 29, allowing her to play again the following week. She is considered to be one of the most influential professional tennis players of all time and has made quite a lasting impression on the sport. She has showed confidence and emotions on the court over the years, and hasn’t been afraid to share her opinions and thoughts about her success and disappointments.
