First Baptist Chrch (1902) Pennington, NJ

*BETHEL A.M.E. CHURCH (1816) & CEMETERY, PENNINGTON, NEW JERSEY (c. LAWRENCE E. WALKER FOUNDATION)

The First Baptist Church of Pennington, New Jersey, was organized in 1902.  In 1904, it moved into the former school building on the south side of Academy Avenue.  This structure, which had been moved from it original site on the opposite side of the street, was originally built in 1857, in the Italianate style.  It remains in use today (Block #1108-13-1).  The church acquired and subdivided a large plot in this area in the first decade of the 20th century and today seven vernacular American Homestead dwellings dating from the early part of the 20th century can be seen lining Crawley Avenue.
