Lisa Phillips received her B.A. and M.A. from Purdue University and her Ph.D. from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. She teaches and researches twentieth century United States labor, African American, and women’s history. Her first book, “Organizing the Workers Nobody Else Wanted”: Catch-All Organizing in New York City in the Mid-Twentieth Century is currently under review. Her new project examines the history of Jewish-Black alliances from the 1930s through the 1970s. Dr. Phillips teaches courses on the twentieth century United States, African-American History, U.S. Women’s History, and the history of the working-class and class formation. She also teaches courses for the Women’s Studies program.
