Dr. Brian Melton

Dr. Melton was born and raised in South Georgia. His hometown, Ellaville, is so small it still has only one stoplight! He left to study at Toccoa Falls College in the fall of 1994 with the intention of becoming a pastor. While at Toccoa, God diverted him to other pursuits. He changed his field of study from Pastoral Ministries to Philosophy and Religion, with a minor in History. He graduated from Toccoa in December of 1998 and went on to study American history with Steven E. Woodworth at Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, TX. He finished his Masters degree in May of 2001, and his Ph.D. in December of 2003. Dr. Melton maintains wide and varied interests, ranging from history to Kendo to C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien. He is a published author, with articles appearing in various encyclopedias and a scholarly journal relating to the Civil War and Inklings Studies. He has also reviewed a number of books on Civil War topics. He published his first book “Sherman's Forgotten General: Henry W. Slocum” with the University of Missouri Press in 2007. His second book, "Robert E. Lee: A Life" is in the final phases of publication with ABC-CLIO. He has also published a science fantasy novel, "Waverly Hall."
