Yuri Kochiyama on her Internment in WWII Japanese American Detention Camp & Malcolm X Assassination

283px-Democracy_Now!_logo.svgDemocracy Now! has learned that civil rights activist Yuri Kochiyama has died at the age of 93. Learn more about her in the interview above that we aired in 2008. Kochiyama describes how her activism began after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, when she and her family were held in a Japanese American internment camp. This interview aired the week that marked 43 years since Malcolm X was gunned down in the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem, and Kochiyama also recalls how she cradled his head as he lay dying on the stage.
