Professor of History (Ph.D. University of Chicago, 1995). Research focus on U.S. and European military history. Dr. Lewis has a dual role at KU as a professor in the History Dept. He is a distinguished military historian who comes to KU from the University of North Texas where he was chair of the Department of History. He received his Ph.D. in European and Military History from the University of Chicago in 1995. He is the author of Omaha Beach: A Flawed Victory (2001), and The American Culture of War: A History of American Military Force from World War II to Operation Iraqi Freedom (2007), currently being revised for a second edition. In addition to his work at the Office of Professional Military Graduate Education, Dr. Lewis teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in military history, including courses on the Second World War and on military conflicts in Korea and Vietnam.
