WEEKSVILLE BROOKLYN, NEW YORK BEREAN MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH (1880) (c. WEEKSVILLE HISTORICAL SOCIETY)

This church was organized in 1847 at the corner of Schenectady Avenue and Dean Street in the historic Weeksville section of Brooklyn, New York.  It is considered to be the first Black church in the area.  James Weeks, for whom the Weeksville section is named, received inspiration for the church from the Reverend James Allen, founder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
