Small-Town Boy, Small-Town Girl: Growing Up in South Dakota, 1920-1950 by Eric B. FowlerSheila DelaneyMolly P. Rozum (Foreword)

Eric Fowler and Sheila Delaney grew up 200 miles from one another, in Milbank and Mitchell, two small South Dakota communities little known beyond the state. Tiny as they were, these small towns both served as hubs for nearby farms, ranches, and hamlets. Nevertheless, Fowler and Delaney lived under vastly different conditions: Eric’s was a poor, single-parent home while Sheila enjoyed relative privilege as a member of Mitchell’s social elite. Small-Town Boy, Small-Town Girl tells their separate but parallel stories. In the introduction, editor Molly P. Rozum draws these two contrasting narratives together.
