UNION PROSPECT CEMETERY, ABERDEEN, NEW JERSEY

Union Prospect Cemetery is located between Lloyd and Reids Hill roads, Aberdeen, New Jersey. Also known as Block 86, Lot 2, the 1.3 acres are unkempt. Several gravestones are broken, toppled or illegible. There are a few hand-carved stones, some cement stones and one unusual marker with small blue tiles. At least a dozen grave sites are unmarked. Some graves have small aluminum courtesy markers from local funeral homes. There are about 125 known burials. The oldest gravestone is dated 1902.  Aberdeen Township Historian Edward Fitzgerald is of the opinion that all burials in this cemetery are of African Americans. As of the walk through on September 12, 1998, the most recent burial was 1996.
