Passaic County and Atlantic City Census, 1885

The 1885 Census was the fourth decennial census enumerated by the State ofNew Jerseyand is the earliest to have survived in full. Through volunteer efforts, two portions of the enumeration have been indexed. Specifically, Marie Hook has indexed the schedule forAtlantic Cityand Nancyann Carkeek indexedPassaicCounty(completed by State Archives staff). New Jersey State Archives gratefully acknowledge the considerable time and effort dedicated to this work by these volunteers.

All database entries include the first and last name of every person listed on the census returns. The entries forAtlantic Cityinclude additional demographic data: age range, sex and race.

The database may be search by any combination of first name, last name, and place of enumeration.

Entering the initial letter or string of letters into the Name Fields will return all records beginning with that string. To search on a string within a name, simply type “%” followed by the string.
