Mount Zion A.M.E. Church (1799) Woolrich Township, NJ

The Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church was organized in 1799 under the guidance of Richard Allen, founder of the A.M.E. Church. The Church actively supported the Underground Railroad movement, using its edifice as a station in the Greenwick Line. This line was traveled by Harriet Tubman who guided many fugitive slaves northward to freedom.
