John Hayes

John Hayes: World War II veteran U.S. Army Natick Veterans Oral History Project

John Hayes entered the U.S. Army in June 1943, right after graduating from Cathedral High School in Boston. He served as a rifleman in K Company, 143rd Infantry, 36th Division, and saw action in Italy and southern France. Wounded twice, Hayes earned two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, a Presidential Unit citation and the French Croix de Guerre.
