Dr. Drago received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkley in 1975. His specialty is the American Civil War. His most recent publication is Confederate Phoenix: Rebel Children and Their Families in South Carolina (2008). He recently did a new course entitled “Robber Barrons and Reformers.” He regularly reviews manuscripts for the University of South Carolina Press. He donated his entire cache of research materials dealing with Confederate children in South Carolina to the Avery Research Center. Likewise, he involves himself in conferences dealing with education, and panels for the Southern History Education Society. He is working on an article entitled: “Dr. William Demosthenes Crum’s Walking Stick and the Legitimacy of Black Political Power in South Carolina History” June 10, 2013. He is one of the founders of the Avery Research Center, and a member of the Board. Research Interests: American Civil War and Reconstruction; South Carolina and Georgia African-American, Children's History.
